Orthotics are custom-made in-shoe devices fabricated from a variety of materials. At Twin Rivers orthotics are used to treat and prevent many problems of the foot. In fact, orthotics may help certain patients to avoid surgical procedures by providing proper balance to the foot. First plaster casts are obtained of the patient's foot and allowed to harden. These casts are sent to Solo Laboratories in Kutztown, PA where a replica of the foot is made. The orthotic is then generated based on the doctor's prescription and the model of the foot. While orthotics can be recommended for most mechanical problems of the foot, they are especially important for people who develop flatfeet as children and adults.
